Hello, I am hoping someone can help me with some advice. Please respond only if you are certain of the information you are providing. I am an American citizen with UK/EU citizenship by decent. I have never lived in Europe, except for the past few months when I rented an apartment to spend a few months as a visitor in Austria.

During my time here, I have met and fallen in love with a Tunisian illegal. Can I marry him here in Austria legally? After a marriage, would it be easy to regularize his immigration status?

This is quite a delicate matter and I am afraid your best chances lie with hiring an immigration lawyer. This is quite costly, but certainly offers you the best scenario of obtaining legality for your fiancé.

Is your status an EU national? You may wan to consult the European Commission (http://ec.europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-family/index_en.htm) for the most accurate information.

Thank you. Yes, I have a UK/EU passport, so am an EU national.
