    Hello,
Is it possible to get a student visa from within France? I am currently living in California, USA. Do I have to do everything through my local consulate, and no other way? Is it possible to go to France, and apply and receive my visa from within the country, or will I have to fly back here for the process?

    Thank you!

    Hello and welcome to EasyExpat.com,
For question about Visa to go to France, you should refer to our article in our City guide:
    http://www.easyexpat.com/en/guides/france/paris/departure/passport-visa.htm
You don't need to go to France for the process. On the contrary, everything should be done when you are in the US (with French consulate/embassy), before to come to France.
I hope it gives you more information.

    Thank you for replying,
The problem is that I won't be getting my visa in time if I filed for it here, that's why I was wondering if it is at all possible to file and receive a long-stay visa after arriving to France, as this would be most convenient for me.
    Thank you!

I think you should be able to extend the visa while you are already in France, assuming you have a valid passport at the time.
