Hello everybody again!You have already seen nationalities and languages in Greek,now let me how you the countries and their adjectives.For example,we can say that s/thing is Chinese instead of saying that it was made in China.These adjectives are not written with a capital letter and they describe the origin of an object,not of a person.

Well,I think that you are lucky taht you have no ancient Greek experience.It's much more difficult and unuseful than modern Greek.You should learn modern Greek first,and then ancient Greek!!!

 

Now let's see some basic and very useful adjectives to describe somebody or something.There are three genres in Greek and here the adjectives are written with this form masculin/female/neuter.
όμορφος/όμορφη/όμορφο=beautiful
καλός/καλή/καλό=good
γρήγορος/γρήγορη/γρήγορο=fast
κρύος/κρύα/κρύο=cold
ζεστός/ζεστή/ζεστό=hot
άνετος/άνετη/άνετο=comfortable
You can combine these adjectives with Greek nouns,but they must be in the same genree.You can't say η γρήγορη αυτοκίνητο because the word αυτοκίνητο(=car) is neuter.So,you must say το γρήγορο αυτοκίνητο!!!And here are some nouns so you can combine these adjectives to practice.
ο άντρας=the man
η γυναίκα=the woman
το παιδί=the child
το αγόρι=the boy
το κορίτσι=the girl
το αυτοκίνητο=the car
το φαγητό=the food
EXERCISE:
Translate these phrases from Greek to English:

As you might have understood,all the adjectives that you have learnt end in-ος,in the female they change to -η and in the neuter they change to -ο.Of course,there are a lot of exceptions, but this is the general rule.

 

And here are the jobs in Greek.
ο δημοσιογράφος=the journalist
ο πιλότος=the pilot
ο μουσικός=the musician
ο δικηγόρος=the lawyer
ο μάγειρας=the cook
ο μάγος=the magician
ο δάσκαλος=the teacher
ο καθηγητής=the teacher
The feminin are
η δημοσιογράφος
η πιλότος
η μουσικός
η δικηγόρος
η μαγείρισσα
η μάγισσα
η δασκάλα
η καθηγήτρια
Some nouns are the same in both genders,but some change their ending or even their accent.
The difference between δάσκαλος/δασκάλα and καθηγητής/καθηγήτρια is that the first is used to speak about a primary teacher,while the second is used to speak about a secondary/university teacher.
