The Best Areas to Live in Sydney

Postby texkourgan » Tue Aug 27, 2013 10:05 am

It can be difficult to find the best place to live in a new city. This is even more difficult for an expat who is not familiar with the Sydney and culture. So where is the best place to live in Sydney?

What do you look for in a neighborhood? What do different neighborhoods offer? What area would you recommend based on:
- Schools
- Transportation
- Access to shops and groceries
- Nightlife and Activities

Where do you live? What do you like about it? Are there any dangerous areas? Are some areas more affordable?

Thank you in advance for your contribution. This is a very common question for expats moving to Sydney and your help is much appreciated.

Hi :)

I'll be moving with my boyfriend in Sydney next January.
I don't know Sydney.

I'm looking for a job in the art and event sector. Therefore i'd prefer not being too far from the cultural areas in Sydney.
I also want to find a not too expensive rent as I read that Sydney real-estate was expensive.

Could you advise me where are those areas and where I could start looking ?

Are you living in Australia? in Sydney?

Thank you !!

L.

Hi lolopnsatou -
I recommend starting with the Guide to Sydney as it covers a lot of the topics a new expat needs to know.

I also recommend checking out expat blogs in Sydney as they offer info on common questions. For example, expat interviews in Australia:
http://interviews.blogexpat.com/blog/20 ... e-new-edge
http://interviews.blogexpat.com/blog/20 ... -ensalades
http://interviews.blogexpat.com/blog/20 ... down-under

I hope those help point you in the right direction. Does anyone have experience or tips to share?
