UK resident wants to marry Chillean guy

Postby alliyaah27 » Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:50 am

Hi there, i hope you guys can help me as i dont know where to start from. I am a Polish UK resident, have been living in UK for last 7 years, I am not a British Citizen though but have got a permanent residence here and a very good permanent secure job. I have met a Chilean guy online months ago and I liked him so much since day one. We have met in person not long ago, he was in Cyprus and i went there on holiday. We actually fell in love (sounds funny but its true!), anyway i want him to come here because i have a good life here and excellent job so i don't really want to move anywhere (unless i really have to..). He has been living, traveling and working (mainly illegally) in Europe for years but every now and again has to go back to Chille because of visa of course. He has tried once to come to UK over a year ago but was refused entrance based on the fact that he stayed in Spain longer than his visa was issued for so I am guessing they will not let him in here again. We were talking about getting married..I actually don't mind and really want to (I'm already 30 years old so its about time for me  and I do think that he might be the one even though we dont know each other that well yet ) but i know that probably immigration people will not believe me and him that we have genuine intentions. Where should we get married to make this easy? Chile? Poland? UK? Somewhere else in Europe? What do we do after we get married to make sure he can come here and live with me? Any advice would be appreciated... thank u

I would strongly advise against getting married in Poland or at least leave it as a last resort. Not sure if you have any idea of the Polish government offices but they are still semi-Soviet ! Do you get the picture ?

In UK, as you have guessed would be second to impossible. I am not saying go to Chile but you should search around a bit and find a place that he can travel to and are not very beaurocratic.

Once married, he can apply for EEA Family Permit to join you in the UK. In that case, his past immigration history will become irrelevant.

Good luck
