    Hi,
we are both french, my boyfriend got a job in amsterdam (manager in it) and we are thinking yo move thre. It was initially supposed to be a permanent position but on the employment agreement it is indicated there is a 12 months contract (like a cdd in france) with 1 month trial period. We assume a new agreement will be signed after this 12 months period.

After a discussion with hr from the company in amsterdam it seems it is usual to proceed like this in the netherlands: 6 or 12 months period and then permanent position. It is due to the fact it is very difficult to fire someone in a permanent position in the netherlands and acting like this avoid to have very long trial periods.

Can people working in the netherlands let us know if it is really usual/common to proceed like this?
    Many thanks for your help.

Isn't it the example that the former French Prime Minister, Dominique de Villepin, was using when trying to sell his CPE (Contract for young people)?

    Hi,
you are maybe right, i don't remember exactlly what were the conditions proposed by dominique de villepin at that time!
Neverteless it does not answer my question :) i don't say it is normal or abnormal i just would like to know if it is a common practice to have a definite period agreement prior to a permanent position agreement in the netherlands to be sure we are not mistaken/misled by the company in amsterdam.
    Many thanks for your help.

Sorry i read your answer too quickly. If you are right it should then mean it is a common practice in the netherlands!
    Can someone confirm this point?
    Many thanks,
