I am applying for my spouse visa to move to the UK to stay with my English husband, and because I'm in New York I have to do so online first. Can anyone give me a run-down of what goes on when you visit the British Consulate to plead your case? Such as..

How do you get the date/time to appear?
Can my husband be with me?
What kind of questions do they ask?

I'm just very nervous and want everything to not come as a suprise! I just really want to be prepared and would greatly appreciate ANY help!

    Thanks SO much!

i now have another problem.. i applied for my visa and am now concerned because there are only 4 days on the net for eappointments that are "fully booked" and the rest are "not yet available".. i dont know how to go about making an appointment if i'm not able to get through to a live person on the phone or have any available dates online?

Your chances are so much better via posting your application, unless you have a straight forward case and meet all the requirements of a visa dont do an interview, postal better

i am very VERY weary of sending my passport through the post and the 1000+ pages that ill be bringing.. our case is not the most straightfoward (my husband does not have pay stubs to show income, but is actively looking for work as well as keeping his finances in check).. but we want to go in person because of the whole sending incredibly important documents in the mail thing..

its just a pain they will only open a day no more than 2 weeks later than the day you look! its really annoying to have my husband fly down on such short notice..

You can FedEX the documents. Or get a courier.

Your husband does not need to be present if you get an appointment. Just have him get a certified copy of his passport if you don't want him to have to send it overseas.
