✎ EN Insuring a UK car in Italy

    I wonder if anybody can help me.

    I plan to drive into Milan later this year. I will have my UK car tax and MOTed before leaing. Can I insure on this basis with an Italian insurer. Is an Italian insurer likely to work out cheaper than a UK insurer.

    Also, if I return to UK for MOT and tax with in the year can I avoid registering it in Itlay. I will be in Italy for 18 months-two years with the car and want to avoid the cost of registering here then reregistering back in UK.

    I would ordinarily have simply bought a car in Italy but I hae to drie over with our pets and likewise will drive back with them.

    Any help or advice would be very welcome.

    I now find myself in exactly the same position as have a uk car that would like to insure in Milan for approx a year but possibly a bit longer. Did you manage to find an answer last year or did you have to re-register the car? Also if registered in Italy did you have any difficulty insuring a right-hand drive vehicle?
    Any help would be much appreciated.
