I have the same issue, I am living in Paris and looking to move to Singapore but I have no way to compare Paris to Singapore. Can you help me? Just to have an idea of usual expenses... I will be hired as local too in Singapore.

Hi there, I am a Singaporean living in London. Here are some costs info.
1) Council tax : £1160 / annum for a flat in band D (which is in the middle)

2) Gas: £161 / quarter = £54/month

3) Water: £20-£30

4) Electricity: £20-£30

5) Rental: £1100-£1500 / month for 2 bedroom flat , depending on which area

6) TV licence: £120/year = £10/month

7) Transport: £90/mth travelcard for zones 1 and 2

8) Income tax including NHS payment: see below

INCOME TAX

If you work in the UK, you will have to pay income tax. This tax is collected by the government department known as the Inland Revenue.
Tax is paid based on your income during the tax year, which starts on April 6th and ends on April 5th in the following year.

In the 2005/6 tax year (for income earned between April 6th 2005 and April 5th 2006), the income tax bands were as follows:
0% on the first £4,895 (your personal allowance, equivalent to about £94 per week, or £408 per month)
10% (the lower rate) on the next £2,090 equivalent to about £40 per week, or £174 per month)
22% (the basic rate) on the next £30,310 (equivalent to about £583 per week, or £2,526 per month)
40% (the higher rate) on any income above this

9) Meals : average meal £6 excluding sandwiches which are £1-3 depending on type and quality of sandwiches for lunch. Dinner would be £12-£15 if one eats out. Cooking is definitely cheaper, especially if your house is near a market.

10) Gym membership: can be £35 (small crowded gym) -£64 (indoor pool, spacious, decent crowd) www.holmesplace.co.uk

11) Phone (land line) : £ 70/quarter = £25/mth

12) Mobile phone (subscribed) : £70 / month (free 30 local text messages & 120 min free talk time)


Above are all estimates. The further one stays out from central london, the cheaper is the rental. For £1300-£1500, one can rent a house if you are willing to take a train into the city (train, not the tube).
