    Hey,

does anyone know what a first year architect (with a German Dipl. Ing. degree) can earn in London?

I recently applied for a job as an architect in London. And they invited me to an interview. But right now I have no idea what I should answer to the question of my salary expectations. I don't know what the average payment is like and I also don't want to be totally of the chart when talking to them about money.

    Thanks!

Engineer can expect about £16-18K. I would assume about the same for Architects... maybe after 1 year experience we can expect something around £20k, maybe a bit more...

16-18k generally in GB or is this the London salary? There's not much left when I take off 22% for taxes.
I heard that as an foreigner in London you can pay less taxes the first three years. Do you know anything about that?

I hope they will impute the years I work for an architect during my studies.[/quote]

Well, first you do not remove exactly 22% of 18k, but less because you use the formula explained here.

For the first 3 years you can indeed put some money offshor to avoide tax. However, if you intend to spend that money in the UK afterwards you will need to pay the tax on it. Actually with 18k a year, I think you will need all the money for living in the UK, so I won't worry about offshore stuff...
