My wife and I are looking to live abroad and I am just curious as to what most of you did to get started. Do you recommend studying while there? Or is it difficult to obtain a job while abroad? Any and all suggetions are welcome. Thanks very much and happy travels.

    Hi kwillmo,
Great question... but where exactly do you plan to go... or at least in which area? English speaking country? Europe? France? Germany?
Do you speak any other language?
What are your qualification ? Where do you live currently and what do you do ? :headscratch:

Sorry for all those questions, but it will help to give you advice on moving abroad... As you can imagine, situations and choices can be very different.
Some people move temporarly to an English speaking country to improve their English fo a couple of months, or years.

Other people move abroad thanks to an oportunity in their company, others to find another job in a challenging environment...

different people, different situations, different choice ;-)

    Cyril,
Thanks for the response. We were unsure of the destination, if I had to pick one it would be Madrid right now. Not an English-speaking country most likely. I feel learning Spanish would be most helpful after we return to the US.

Currently we live in Nashville, TN and I work in sales. We have not decided if we want to do a work abroad, study abroad, or just chill abroad. I am curious as to others' experiences in work. We have both studied abroad before, but we would like the freedom to travel as we please. I think another important thing is to be IMMERCED in the culture. We might live there about one year.

We hope to save enough money not to have to work if possible.

Please advise. Thanks very much, hope to hear from you soon. :)

Definitly, Spanish is probably the most useful languages after English, the most important second language in America (and it is spreading quickly!).
I've notice (it's a personnal opinion - as an European :shy:) that in some areas English/American people like to travel (at least some of them ;-) ) usually in a big trip around the world after their studying or their first job... it's good but it's better not to see so many country and instead to immerse, as you said, for a long time in a different language and culture... I think you go back to your original countries with new ideas, a more international view, more tolerant and open to other culture...
    Good luck
