As far as the social end, the welcome wagon is a good place to introduce yourself to the forum. The most useful tool for you may be the expat network where you can directly connect with expats in your area (once you have made a few posts to prevent spam). I would also recommend checking out expat blogs in Ireland for great tips and great people. It's also a good idea to upload a picture as it makes your account more personal.
