Need advice . . . Please help me, Aussies :)

Postby CaliGirl » Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:55 am

I am considering relocating from Los Angeles, California to Sydney. I'm a single girl, so no family or partner to worry about. Most of my family (aunts, uncles, cousins) are living in Australia. I found out I can qualify for a resident visa since I have a Bachelor degree in Computer Science and 10 years experience as a software developer (software developers are on the needed skills list), as well as a visa sponsor. I also have an MBA and my most recent work experience involves software sales for IBM and a Product Manager position at an online retail company.

My questions primarily revolve around the difficulty of finding employment. As a permanent resident, but not an Australian citizen, how hard is it likely to be to find a position as a software developer or in software management? On average, how much can I expect to earn with an MBA degree and 12 years of work experience? I've heard it's expensive to live in Sydney - does anyone know how the cost of living would compare to Los Angeles?

Any information you could give me at all would be so greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks so much.

Very exciting plans! :D Start with the Expat guide to Sydney. It covers every aspect of moving abroad. Also connect with expats in Sydney through the network, read expat blogs, and check out the expat interviews for Sydney.

Another useful resource is glasdoor (http://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/sydne ... _IM962.htm) which offers comparison is salary/cost of living.

Best of luck!
