It is not the same procedure if your car is an alreday exported model. Contact this service. "DRIRE". before the the technique control, your car need to be certified as an approved vehicle for french law. for example, the reference of the window of the headlights in not the same in US than in EU... they need to certified the equivalence.

you need to choose the DRIRE from where you are in France, you can find the local DRIRE if you enter DRIRE and the name of the name or of the départment where you live in France. When you can contact them, you need to ask them for a "certificat d'identification" for your car.

The CT is complusary to drive in France, and insurance also but it's two different things with no link.
What is your car, it easier if you want more information and for explain to you the good way to know the brend of your car. And the second question is , how long do you think of staying in FRANCE.( Do you need to have a french plate number or not?)

I can make the search for you because i have many friends in police or gendarmerie and they can give me the good rules for the good situations.

    kind Regards
    fabrice
