Planning a travel depends on the nature of trip. Planning for a business trip will be entirely different with that of holiday trip. Most of the time you don’t have to make much planning for a business trip because it is of short time of period and most of the things are already decided by the companies involved.

In case of a Holiday trip, one should take care for the following to have a very nice and successful holiday trip

    1. First discuss with all family members who are joining you in the trip and get their idea for the destination.

    2. Make more than one destination as option and then start research.

    3. Find fares information first. For this you should contact some reliable and efficient travel agents who can provide you comparative rates.

    4. Check availability of hotels or other options for stay. You can find good stay options within your budget by just doing small research.

    5. Check if there is any Government advisory for that location

    6. Check weather conditions and forecast for the dates you are planning to visit

    7. Check political conditions in that country to avoid any problem during your time of visit

    8. After getting all such information, make a comparative list and then decide for a location

    9. Start preparation for your trip

    10. Make list of things to do before leaving for your trip

    11. Make a list of things you must carry

    12. While arranging tickets for your trip, don’t forget to ask for Comprehensive Travel Insurance. You should be completely aware of the features for Comprehensive Travel Insurance. This should match both your requirements and your budget.

I plan and research the heck out of my vacations. It's not that there's no room for diversions, but I usually have of very good idea or where I am going and exactly how to get there.

yes I agree if we want to enjoy our vacations then we need to plan in advance before traveling. While booking a holiday for a long weekend, there are various things that we need to consider, buying travel insurance will cover your activity or eventuality that might occur while travelling.

Thanks for this awesome Guide, I always plan my vacations though I may not always have the plans in place until a week before I go. Planning a vacation does take time. First you have to decide where you want to go that is within your budget. Don't plan to go to another country if you only have enough money to get to the next state. Once you know where you are going you need to figure out how you will get there and how much it will cost. Then you need to decide where you will stay.

Plan for activities within cities and regions whenever possible, again keeping in mind that these may be subject to change -- plan alternates accordingly. Spend more time in less expensive countries.

I am new to this forum, so hopefully some wiser people can advise me! We are planning a trip next year and will have ten days in Germany. We have not been to Germany before. I have been looking at the German itinerary suggestion on this site. For 10 days it suggests:
    3 days -Munich, Bavarian castles
5 days - add Rhine Valley, Rothenburg
7 days - add More of Bavaria and Tirol, side-trip to Salzburg
    10 days - add Berlin
