Gym Or Fitness Center Info

Postby sandysweeny » Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:57 pm

Hello. I will be moving to shanghai from the usa. It looks like i will live in the jingan or french concession area. Can anyone tell me if there is a fitness facility ( with spin class or stationary bike) in these areas? Aproximate cost would be helpful too.

Thank you.

Sandy

I did a little research & found:

fitness first
plaza 66
offer classes. family' package, (me and husband) and it was about 6000rmb. Also has international memberships, which means i can use any fitness first branch in the world, which is excellent if you travel a lot, as they have branches everywhere!

Alexander Gym
expensive (10000rmb)

Will's Gym
several locations

Physical
about 3000rmb per yr for membership
many locations. good machines and classes. seperate levels for men & women. Also- if you get a member to sponsor/refer you, there's a discount with Physical, when I joined with 2 other people referred by some other guy it was 2400 rmb/yr.

Bestfit gym
pudong area, in zhangyang road
¥ 800/3 months, but this branch dont have the swimming pool.

Gubei Gym
1900 for two people for six months.
no swimming pool (you have to buy a separate membership for the pool)

Megafit & Ambassy Club

here are some other gym listings as well: http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/shanghai/ ... orts/gyms/

Thank you! I so appreciate your response! Are any close to Jingan or French Concession? Trying to find out if I have something close enough to walk. Again, your help has been awesome!

It sounds like Star Gym on Jiang Ning lu crossing Kanding Lu & Total Fitness, next to the nanjing xi lu subway stop are in Jing'an. The Total Fitness is around 1750rmb/yr. Also- MOB on Xinzha rd. RMB3,000 per year including use of the indoor swimming-pool.

French Concession-
Regal International Hotel they have a Tennis Club and a great Health Club.
Physical 1800RMB/yr
California Fitness on Huai Hai charges 10K RMB/yr. You could probably negotiate them down to the corporate rate, or if you're willing to limit your work-out time to off-hours, perhaps the student rate for around 5K RMB.

Hope that helps!

I am not sure about either of those unfortunately. I assume if you contact the gyms directly they will be able to provide with a list of classes available.

As for buying a stationary bike, these sites may be of use to you:
