Hi,

I am currently in the US on an H1b visa extension which expires in July 2008. I'd like to have a green card and settle in the US, and am trying to decide which way to do it: marriage or employment. I come from a politically unstable country and would not feel safe going back.

How long do I have to be married to receive and keep a green card? I have a friend who offered to help me if I chose this way.

The emplyment option is still open, but more difficult from what I've heard. And it may take longer. I've lived in the US for 15 years on different visas and worked or studied full time throughout this time. I'd prefer to slow down and start working part time as soon as possible so I can take care of my health. As a professional, I can comfortably support myself financially by working part-time, but I can't have a part time job if I apply for a green card thru an employer.

I would like to understand what my options are and would appreciate your answer.
