So you are looking for a room in a shared flat, a Wohnung Gemeinschaft or WG? I recommend posting in the Frankfurt classifieds and checking out the Guide to Frankfurt. The section on finding accommodation on in Frankfurt should be of help, as well as sites like:
http://www.wg-gesucht.de/
http://www.studenten-wg.de/
http://www.immobilienscout24.de/de/find ... /index.jsp

This guide is currently being updated, but the recently updated Guide to Berlin also has helpful info about finding housing in Germany. For example,

Ad terms:
AB - Altbau / Old building. Pre-1945
BK - Balkon / Balcony
KM - Kaltmiete / Cold rent
WM - Warmmiete / Warm rent
NK - Nebenkosten / Extra costs
BZ - Badezimmer / Bathroom
ZH/GH/EH - (Zentral-/Gaz-/Etageheizung) / Central, gas and floor heating

Let us know what tips you have and what you find. Best of luck!
