Hi,

My wife just gave birth to a baby in France, 6 weeks premature. We did not plan to have the baby in France.

Our Australian Private Health Insurance, the Australian Healthcare system and our Travel Insurance all don't cover the cost of the birth and of the caring for the premature baby. I've double checked.

I'm an IT contractor and so my company will also not cover the costs.

We are not in the French Healthcare system either as it was only a 6 month contract I had and we were planning on heading back to Australia for the birth.

The baby came today, 4 days before my wife was due to fly back to Sydney.

It is a public hospital and the cost of looking after the premature baby is around 1000 EURO /day. The baby will be in the hospital for at least 2-3 weeks.

I am really desperate to work out if there is any way I can have the cost of the baby's care paid for. I literally cannot afford to pay the bill.

Please somebody give me advice on what to do.
