I'd appreciate if anyone who got EEA2 told approx how long they had to wait. Looking at http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/eucit ... ropeanlaw/ makes me feel shocked. That's mainly because last year FMRS has been issued in two months (applied end-Sept - got back early-Nov). Has this changed and are they processing applications 3-5 times slower?

The site may not always be exactly up to date, but yes, there are serious problems and delays in the processing of applications under European law. You are entitled to a response within 6 months, I think, but it is entirely possible that it will take longer.
Does anyone have the experience of taking back the passport when application is pending? How long does it take? Do you need to go in person or send a letter? Do you need to provide the reason? Any useful information is appreciated.

Luckily we sent only a copy, so we did not have that problem. I think it is quite obvious that if you both come from other countries, you would want to go and visit home every once in a while...
Concerning your question, it seems to take about 4 weeks now, although sometimes longer. I think you have to send a letter and state that you need the passport for travel, although that may have changed.
