Cost of Living in UK

Postby Rene » Mon Jul 14, 2008 11:17 pm

Hi everyone,

I checked the cool calculator on this website and without considering rent, I get a cost of living factor between Frankfurt Germany and London of about 10% (actualy figured it would be more!)

Does this sound resonable? I'm planing to move about 50 km north of London and Mercer gave me a factor of only 6% increase compared to Frankfurt.

Any comments?

Thanks for your help!

As explained, the cost of accommodation represents 30% of the total spending in the model.
Renting/Buying is particularly high in London (however less expensive nowadays if you consider the exchange rate between EUR/GBP).

I realize that renting is very expensive in London. Our company has a policy to cover rent directly plus give a "cost of living" allowance.

Therefore, I'm trying to get a feel for the cost of living in UK WITHOUT the cost for housing (compared to Germany).

I'd appreciate any replies or information.

Thanks for your help!
