Hi,

I've been living and working in Australia for the last year in order to be with my now Civil Partner, registering our Civil Partnership at the Embassy in Syndey, he also has Dual New Zealand and Australian citizenship. I have now been offered work in the UK which I am due to start on the 30th April.

This has been very last minute but a great opportunity. I understand from the reading I have done that we can apply for a settlement visa as we are Civil Partners.

Is it possible for him to go to the UK on a Tourist visa, I understand he he won't be able to work etc, and then apply for a settlement visa when we are over their or do we have to apply for a Settlement visa in Australia in order for him to enter the UK?

As our leave date is only 4 weeks away I am aware that the UK embassy in Canberra may not process the visa within this 4 week period and as far as I know if we apply for the visa here in Australia my partner must be living in Australia at he time of it being approved etc.

Your suggestions/answers will be much appreciated.

With regards to evidence etc we are aware of what we need and the process we need to go through it is just this point that we cannot get an answer on and trying to contact the Embasy in Canberra is a nightmare.
