I am getting ever closer to retirement age (59) so I'm thinking about my pension. I worked for around 35 years in the UK before I moved to France. I have worked in France on a local contract since 2010.

Can I use the years I worked in the UK to ensure I reach the maximum number of "trimestres" for the French "base" pension?

I also have points in a supplementary pension through my employer. I think you multiply the points by a magic number and it generates a pension figure. Is that figure in anyway dependant upon the number of years I've worked in France?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

wow, that's really helpful and, at the same time, a bureaucratic nightmare. Thanks for taking the time to point me in the right direction.

One stupid questions about the ARRCO and AGIRC points. Is it a simple case of multiplying the points by the annual reference points to arrive at the supplementary pension I will receive when I retire (say 500 ARRCO points x 1,2513 = 625,65 plus 10,000 AGIRC points x 0,4352 = 4,352,00, totalling 4,977,65 euros per annum)?

I assume this is paid at the "normal" pension age, which is 67 in my case. Can I take it earlier, and what would be the penalty? Do the number of trimestres I have worked in France (20 in my case) have any effect on the total paid?

The Arrco-Agirc website does not work very well tonight but the link is:
    http://www.agirc-arrco.fr/particuliers/ ... -retraite/

According to their explanation it says:
So I assume you understand correctly how it works.

The minimum age for retirement is 62 in France. Between 62 and 67 you can go whenever you want but your pension will be reduce in case you have not achieved the necessary period (164 trimestres) - comprising the time in France and in any other country with pension agreements such as the EU - due to the penalty (Settling rate between 25% and 50%).

If you have worked let say 20 years in France and 20 years in the UK, then the calculation will use a total period of 40 years. If you want to retire earlier without penalty in France, you can buy additional "trimestres" (explanation in our articles).

Thank you, you have been a great help. I didn't have any plans to retire just yet but the company I work for has put our business unit up for sale so I'm making sure I'm ready for the worst!
