Austria's pension and social security system is primarily regulated by the EU.

Pension is calculated based on the amount of contribution and the time period over which it has been accrued. If, after being gainfully employed elsewhere, a person returns to Austria, the pension acquired abroad will be disbursed separately from the pension acquired in Austria.
