Internships are an excellent tool for advancing your skills in a field of interest. These positions help young adults find a career path, test their aptitude for certain kinds of work, and further develop their resume or CV. Internships are almost always unpaid as the intern is gaining skills and experience. It is critical to find the right match so that the relationship is beneficial to both intern and company. Full time students have the easiest time finding internships because of their age, lack of real life skills, amount of free time, and education.

To secure an internship aboard, it is usually necessary to find a company that sets-up the internship. Internships are commonly set-up through a university for its students. Some agencies require a fee to secure a placement. Such agencies include:

There are also a variety of internships with a focus on Prague.

The European Study Abroad Center (ESAC)
Offers a summer internship program in Prague. This month-long internship focuses on International Business and Global Marketing, and is geared toward college students. Recent graduates are also welcome to apply. Program participants must take a Czech language and culture course.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
Offers internships in Prague to recent graduates and graduate students. Internships typically last between two and six months.

The Multicultural Center Prague
Promotes the Czech Republic's multicultural society, organizes lectures, exhibitions, and readings. The center offers unpaid internships with a duration ranging from six weeks to a year.

Visa

An intern may have to apply for a visa, depending on the length of their stay and their country of origin. If working with an agency, the agency usually guides the intern through the process.

Required documents for a long-stay visa:
• Application form - completed and signed by the applicant
• Passport
• 2 recent passport-sized photographs
• Proof of accommodation in the Czech Republic (i.e. notarized statement from the owner saying you are provided for or a notarized copy of the rental contract)
• A Czech criminal history record (which can be applied for at the embassy along with the visa)
• Proof of health insurance
• Proof of sufficient funds (the amount depends on the purpose of your stay)

Depending on the circumstances of the internship, a work permit or student visa may be required for an intern. The work permit requires a work contract in addition to the regular requirements. A student visa requires a university confirmation letter.
