    Pharmacy

    The first Russian pharmacies were established by Ivan the Terrible in 1581. The Pharmaceutical Department controlled pharmacies actions as well as the basic development and distribution of drugs. Ferreyn's Pharmacy was opened in Moscow and still operates today. Pharmacies have come a long was and about 700 state-run and private pharmacies exist in Moscow. High quality drugs and hygiene products are now available as well as feminine hygiene products, toothpaste and condoms. To find a pharmacy, look for the large green crosses and the word APTEKA.

    There are several 24-hour pharmacies:

    • Zemlyanoi Val, 25 (east center, metro Kurskaya)
    • Novy Arbat, 15 (Arbat area, west center, metro Arbatskaya (blue) or Smolenskaya)

    A few other 24-hour pharmacies are at the beginning of Novy Arbat street (metro Arbatskaya) and the one at the beginning of Nikolskaya street (Kitai Gorod or Kremlin area, metro Lubyanka (red) or Ploshchad Revolutsii (blue).

    Offers 24-hour emergency service, consultations and a full range of specialists, including paediatricians and dentists. It has an onsite pharmacy with English-speaking staff.

    Includes medical and dental facilities, which are open around the clock for emergencies. The staff speaks 10 different languages.
