Courses for Adults and Evening Class in Madrid

Guides: Madrid > Education / Courses for Adults and Evening Class
    26/08/2010

The city government, or your local council (the town hall in Madrid) will offer courses in Spanish for immigrants (often for free). They will also give you information on private organizations.

Social Clubs can provide many courses for growth and learning. "Junta" of your area ( xunta de galicia, junta de andalucia...), Universities, employment offices of Inem, provide training and courses for adults.

    Language education

If you don't speak Spanish, it's advisable to enrol in a course at a local language school, preferably before arriving in Spain. If you're working in Spain you will usually have little choice about learning Spanish; in fact you're unlikely to obtain a job interacting with Spaniards if you don't speak good Spanish. In some areas they speak the official language of the region in addition to castillan (galicien in galice, catalan in catalogne ...). If you're planning to work in Spain you may wish to obtain a formal qualification in Spanish for non-native speakers of Spanish (Diplomas de Español Como Lengua Extranjera), administered by the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Instituto Cervantes and the University of Salamanca. Information is available from the above institutions or Spanish embassies, and examinations are held worldwide at three levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced).

    Spanish language schools

Instituto Cervantes: offers Spanish courses abroad and maintains a list of languages in Spain. Unfortunately, their web site is almost impossible to navigate if you do not already know Spanish. Directory of Spanish language schools
