Shop-alcoholics will rejoice in Lisbon. Lisbon remains one of the cheaper cities to shop in compared to the rest of Europe and shoppers can expect fantastic deals in a charming shopping experience. Lisbon is particularly famous for its leather products, handmade tiles and gold.

The major shopping areas in Lisbon are:

• Avenida de Liberdade: This is the Champs Elysee of Lisbon and is home to high fashion names like Armani, Hugo Boss, Luis Vuitton etc.
  
• Chiado:  This quarter is also home to international brands like Cartier and more mainstream brands like Zara, H&M and United Colours of Benetton etc.
  
• Principe Real District:  This area has been dubbed as the new design mecca. This is the place to head to for shops specilising in interior design.
• Bairro Alto: For those of you who fancy alternative fashion and funky streetwear, head to this part of town.
  
• Alfama: This is the city's most famous flea market; open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

Super and Hypermarkets

There are a number of small supermakets dotted across Lisbon. It's a good idea to pop into a Portugese supermarket to pick up a drink or snacks as they are often much cheaper than cafes and souvenir shops. For organic lovers, there are two new organic supermarkest that have popped up in Lisbon. Biocoop is a famous one that's just next to the airport. It is a consumer cooperative for organic products and you can find a vast variety of fresh vegetables, meat, cheese, vegetable proteins, yoghurts at reasonable prices. Brio is another famous organic supermarket that's built in the heart of Campo de Ourique neighbourhood. They sell organic food, cosmetics, hygiene and cleaning products, books, handicrafts and also deliver the goods to your house for an extra five euros.

Malls

Lisbon has some of the largest shopping malls in Europe. Below are some of the most famous malls in this city:

• Armazens do Chiado: Popular and centrally located in the Chiado district
  
• Amoreiras: Oldest mall in Lisbon
  
• Atrium Saldanha: Loads of shops and large food court
  
• Centro Vasco da Gama: Popular shopping mall built along an ocean theme
  
• Colombo: One of the largest malls in Europe, it has a number of restaurants, health club, bowling alley, multiplex cinema etc
  
• El Corte Ingles: A Spanish department store that's opened to great popularity in Lisbon
