From a foreign country, you will need to dial 00 and 351 to reach Portugal and 21 for Lisbon.

Landlines and mobile telephony is surprisingly well advanced. There are usually a number of public phones within Post offices (correios), bus and train stations as well as cafes and bars. Most of these public telephones are capable of taking both coin and credit cards for ease of use.

    Pre-paid cards

The prepaid SIM card with a world cell phone is a convenient, economical and efficient way to stay in touch while in Portugal. All incoming calls while you travel in Portugal are free. You only pay the local rate for local calls since the SIM card is prepaid, there is no hassle of a contract. You can get a pre-paid SIM card at any mobile shop in the country.
