Summer, seasonal and short term jobs

J1 visas are required for summer job or volunteering and can be secured once you've been confirmed with an exchange program or sponsor company and have completed a DS-2019 form. You must be between the ages of 18 and 28, and it is your responsibility to find a company to sponsor you for the summer for a maximum of 4 months. At the end of your 4 months you will be allowed an additional 30 days to visit the country at your leisure.

Summer jobs are usually available in bars, restaurants, stores, and parks at the minimum wage of $6 to $10 depending on the state and the category of the job.

Working in bars or restaurants generates tips of 10% to 20% but are not guaranteed.

Special insurance may be provided by the sponsoring companies.
