Gas, Electricity, Water

If you are renting a property, it is your responsibility to settle the utility bills directly. Water, electricity and sewage are all handled by DEWA, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, from whom you will receive a monthly bill, according to your level of usage. Their web site includes a useful customer guide, explaining how to change billing address, request connection of a new supply and request a final bill, for example.

The domestic electricity supply in Dubai is 220/240 volts. Sockets generally conform to the British three-pin 13 amp design and adaptors are readily available in local supermarkets should you need them. Those using US appliances will require an adaptor to handle the difference in voltage. Appliances purchased in the UAE will generally have two-pin plugs attached.

There is no mains gas supply, so gas appliances must be fed by canisters connected via a tap outside your property.
