Health facilities in Taiwan are adequate for routine and emergency medical treatment. State-of-the-art medical equipment is available at many clinics and hospitals.
Medicines for most ailments can be found at the drug store, even those that may require a prescription elsewhere (like asthma inhalers and birth control pills). however, opiates and pain killers are still by prescription. Medicine is usually must less expensive then in the West.
There are many small pharmacies throughout Taipei. A large pharmacy commonly referred to is the Shanghai Pharmacy (Hengyang Rd., No. 32). Joy Pharmacy (02-2657-2562; No. 37, Alley 50, Lane 737, Section 1, NèiHú Road, Neihu District) and Leader Pharmacy (02-2834-7733; No. 678, Section 5, ZhongShan North Road, Shihlin District) are two other options.
