People aged 16 and over and who are unemployed in Spain, they can apply for Unemployment Benefit. SEPE (Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal) is in charge of compensating unemployment benefits to social security system members in Spain.

Unemployment benefits don't allow you to survive. Benefits start at €497 per month for a person with no children under his/her dependence.

To qualify for Unemployment Benefit you must:

• Be registered at the social security system
• Be legally unemployed and appear as a job seeker in the state employment service willing to accept suitable employment
• Have paid contributions for at least 360 days in the 6 years before becoming unemployed or before the end of your obligation to pay contributions
• Be between 16 years old and the retirement age (standard 65/67 years old)
