Passport, Visa & Permits to Seoul

Tools:

Passports valid for at least 6 months are required for every family member and you must have them in your possession before making any visa applications. Children under 13 can no longer travel on a parent’s passport nor can spouses appear on each other’s passports.

All visas, including long-term visas, are for a single visit. Anyone wishing to leave Korea and then re-enter during their allowed period of stay must obtain a re-entry permit.

Foreign visitors who plan on staying in Korea longer than 30 days must also obtain a visa or visa extension (unless they fall under a Visa Exemption Agreement). Applications for visa extensions can be made at a local immigration office at least one day before the day of expiration. In Seoul you can obtain visa extensions in various offices, including the Seoul Global Center. Visa extensions are usually issued one to three days following receipt of the application and are valid for 90 days in most cases. Visa Extensions for tourist visas are possible in special cases such as accidents. In addition to your completed application form you will also need to include a recent passport-size colour photo and the application fee.

Work Permits/Visas are required for anyone wanting to work - in any capacity - in Korea. The type of visa depends on the type of work. To obtain a work visa, you must first find a job. The employer should then initiate the application procedure with the government on your behalf.
