International Schools


The American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) is an independent, coeducational, multi-racial day school which offers an educational program from PK through grade 12 for children of all nationalities residing in the Republic of South Africa.  The School was founded in 1982.  The school year comprises 2 semesters, extending from mid-August to mid-December and from mid-January to mid-June. A listing of several other international schools in and around Johannesburg is included below:

Franklin D. Roosevelt Primary
A small school situated in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, (in Roosevelt Park) with just over 700 learners. This is not a boarding school and does not offer boarding facilities, but rather offers a normal SA Public School Curriculum

Grayston Preparatory School
Located at Corner North Road and Gillard Street, Sandown, Sandton, Johannesburg. Preparatory school for ages 5 - 13 years. Child-focused educational package based on the individual needs of the learner.

Hermanus Montessori
The Montessori School in Hermanus, Western Cape offers a haven of playful learning. It offers a Montessori pre-school and primary school curriculum.

Charterhouse School
Located in Honeydew, Roodepoort, near Johannesburg. The British Syllabus forms the foundation for all syllabus and curriculum development for the school. Specific content is adapted where necessary to ensure that the curriculum is relevant to the South African situation. The curriculum is in line with the Core - Curriculum as set out by the Gauteng Department for Education. Charterhouse School is a registered member of the Cambridge International Primary Programme. It is a private Pre-Primary and Preparatory school (Grade 000 - Grade 7) combining ns traditional and innovative study techniques.

Horizon International High School
Horizon International High School was founded in 2000. It enrolled 194 students in 2005. In the school premises there is also a dormitory which has a capacity of 40 learners. Mathematical and Scientific subjects are taught by Turkish teachers, Languages and Social Science subjects are the responsibility of South African educators. The school is located in Turffontein, Johannesburg, on the corner of Peter Wessels and Eastwood Streets.
