Singtel is the national company that handles telephone lines and services.

Applying for a residential phone line

You can apply for a phone line by doing the following:

Calling 169 if you are a residential customer or 166 if you are a business customer

Or

Filling out an application form at any post office, Singapore Telecom Customer service outlet or Teleshop.

Foreigners with work permits are required to pay an initial deposit of $250, and for foreigners with social visit passes the initial deposit is $500.

Your phone line should be in service within 6 working days from the time of approval.

For providers of mobile phone (cellphone) services, you also have the option of going with M1 (Mobile1), and StarHub. Both offer international calling at very competitive prices, sometimes as much as 40% lower, so it's worth checking them out too.

Public Phones

Public phones can be found everywhere in Singapore, and can be coin-operated or card phones. You can purchase card phones at all post-offices and many other outlets. Airports and major hotels also offer credit card operated phones.
