Hotels and Bed and Breakfast

Singapore has what are called ‘world class' hotels. These are usually fairly expensive (although much cheaper than their counterparts in Europe and North America), but the service and food are excellent. The Raffles Hotel, Shangri-La and the Mandarin are but a small example of the high-end hotels available.

If you are interested in going slightly ‘off-road' and would like to stay in an individually-owned hotel that is up-market yet more old-world, you could consider staying in a boutique hotel such as The Scarlet, Berjaya Hotel , New Majestic Hotel or Hotel 1929.

There are also bed & breakfasts such as Sleepy Sam's, Albert Court Hotel, and Hotel Bencoolen.

Another very good option is to stay at the YMCA – or the Metropolitan Y Singapore, as it is known. The rooms are nicely furnished and very comfortable, and they have everything from dormitories, hotel rooms for individuals and families, and service apartments (with cooking and laundry facilities and housekeeping services 3 times a week).

There are actually many service apartments in Singapore for those wishing a ‘home-away-from-home' (usually with facilities like a swimming pool) which tend to work out cheaper for families and slightly longer stays, whether it's for a business trip, a family holiday or somewhere to stay while looking around for more long-term accommodation. The Far East Organisation has several service apartments at various prices, as do the YMCA and the Shangri-La.
