Imports in Romania

Although Romania is a member of the European Union, it is not in the Schengen space. All citizens who enter the country must pass before border control, regardless of whether they are entering the country from another EU state or not.

There are two desks at any border check point when entering Romania: "Nothing to Declare" and "Goods to Declare". If you do not carry with you items that are either prohibited or above the maximum permissible limits, you can go through "Nothing to Declare". Keep in mind that authorities will perform random checks of the persons in the "Nothing to Declare" line and inspect the luggage they are bringing to the country.

Bringing Pets to Romania

Pets may be brought into Romania, but this requires additional preparation and expense.

First of all, if you plan to bring your pet you must ensure that the Border Inspection Post you plan to go through has a veterinarian checkpoint. A list of the Border Inspection Posts with veterinarian checkpoints can be found on the Romanian Customs website.

A notification should be sent 24 hours prior to arrival. You should call the Border Inspection Post through which you will be entering the country and arrange for the veterinarian checkpoint personnel to be there at the time you will be arriving. Once at the border, you must prove that the animal is in good health.
