Most expats and Qataris send their children to international schools. There are many international schools to choose from offering UK, American, Canadian, Indian, and IB curricula. The language of instruction at most International Schools in Doha is English. Arabic and other language courses may also be offered.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

The IB program is offered by a number of international schools in Doha, including Qatar Academy, Doha British School, International School of London, Qatar Academy, Qatar Leadership Academy, The American School of Doha, Al Jazeera Academy, and the Gulf English School. It is taught under the supervision of the International Baccalaureate Organization. All students study languages, social science, experimental science, mathematics and arts.

The IB is divided into three programmes covering the following age ranges:

  1. Primary Years Programme (PYP) ages 3-12
  2. Middle Years Programme (MYP) ages 11-16
  3. Diploma Programme (DP) ages 16-1

Tuition & Application at International Schools in Qatar

To apply to an international school in Doha you may be asked to present:

  • Latest school report
  • Copy of nursery report (for younger children)
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of Qatar Residence Permit
  • Passport sized photographs
  • Immunization records (for younger children)
  • Application fee

Students may also be required to take a cognitive abilities test (online) and/or take part in assessments (online or in person). The ideal time to apply for schools is in January if you would like your child to enroll in September. However, wait lists for some schools can be up to 24 months.

You may be charged a deposit when enrolling your child in an international school in Doha, up to 10,000 QR. Tuition varies by school, from 5,000 QR annually at Doha College to 10,680 QR per term at the Doha English Speaking School.

Qatar Leadership Academy

The Qatar Leadership Academy teaches boys ages 7 to 18 seeking university preparation in Qatar and the Gulf Region. It is one of the few boarding schools in the Arabian Gulf and Middle East region. It offers IB Diplomas and US recognized high school diplomas. Classes are taught in English but Arabic and Islam is taught to all students. The academic year begins in September. The Qatar Leadership Academy accepts international applicants.

Tuition fees: 48,150 QR for Years 7-10 for international students, and 53,000 QR for Years 11 and 12.
