Mobile Phone

Portugal has one of the highest mobile phone penetration rates in the world (the number of operative mobile phones already exceeds the population). This network also provides wireless mobile Internet connections as well, and covers the entire territory.

The mobile services market in Portugal has experienced unprecedented growth. Portugal Telecom (PT) is the largest telecommunications service provider in Portugal. It owns TMN - Telecomunicações Móveis Nacionais, S.A., headquartered in Lisbon, which is Portugal's first mobile and leading communications company. The other two main service providers are Vodafone and Optimus. Mobile penetration is above the EU average, while growth has been supported through the popularity of using multiple SIMs.

The prepaid SIM card for Portugal is easily the least expensive solution for making and receiving cellular phone calls while you are in Portugal. ALL incoming calls, regardless of their origin, are always, absolutely FREE! Outgoing rates, as outlined below, are extremely inexpensive as well. And since these cellular phone cards are prepaid, there is no need for a contract. International calls can be expensive. The cheapest way to stay in touch with your friends and family back home is with an international calling card. They are available at every phone shop in the city. Incoming calls are free while you can control the number of out going calls.
