Movies are a popular form of Sunday entertainment in Lisbon. They are generally shown in their original langauge with Portugese subtitles. Tickets cost around E5, E3.50 with concessions. For reduced rates, head to the cinemas on Monday. The city's main theatres are listed below:

  • Cinemateca Portuguesa: Libon's national film theatre with both international and local films. Located at Rua Barata Salgueiro, 39. Tel: 21 359 62 26.
  • Quarteto: Known for playing art house films. Located at Flores Lima, 16, Northern Lisbon. Tel: 21 797 13 78.
  • Amoreiras: Has a 11-screen cinema showing Hollywood blockbusters. Located at Av Eng Duarte Pacheco. Tel: 21 387 87 52.
  • Monumental Saldanha: Features a mix of independent films and select Hollywood films. Located at Av Fontes Pereira de Melo. Tel: 21 314 22 23.
  • São Jorge: Features five screens and a classic 1950's ambience. Located at Av da Liberdade, 175. Tel: 21 31 034 00
  • Vasco da Gama: Has 10 screens and conveniently located at the Expo 98 Shopping Centre. Tel: 21 893 06 01.

Nightclubs
