There are several landline and mobile phone operators in Poland. The biggest Polish telecom is Telekomunikacja Polska. This public company has a dominant position on the Polish landline phone market, but is facing strong competition from other providers.

The mobile phone standard in Poland is GSM 900/1800. For the GSM standard the coverage is close to 100% for all operators. There is also UMTS network available in most bigger cities in Poland from all four mobile operators.

There are 4 main mobile phone operators in Poland. They offer both monthly subscriptions or top-up phone numbers:

  • Era [ www.era.pl ] is the leading mobile phone network operator in Poland, working on GSM and UMTS standard (owned by T-Mobile)
  • Plus GSM [ www.plus.pl ] operates on GSM, UMTS and WLAN networks (owned by Vodafone)
  • Orange [ www.orange.pl ] operates on GSM, UMTS and WLAN networks
  • Play [ www.playmobile.pl ] the newest Polish mobile operator, working on UMTS network in major cities (outside of UMTS coverage, uses Plus GSM network)
