Theatres in Lima

Lima offers a vibrant and active cultural scene for every taste. Among all its cultural activities, we can highlight its many theatres, where both classic plays and modern and experimental theatre, dramas, dance performances, are performed.

Most productions are in Spanish, but you might find some international plays in other language.

Opera in Lima
The Gran Teatro Nacional del Perú opened in 2012 and it is the biggest and most modern theatre in Lima's cultural scene. With almost 1,500 seats, it is equipped with the newest technology in sound and theatrical system. It is home to Latin America's operas, concerts, ballets and Broadway shows.

For opera-lovers, EasyExpat recommends the Opera Festival Alejandro Granda, the most important opera event in South America. It features first-class singers, and the most outstanding productions in the region.

It is also home of the country's Symphony Orchestra, National Ballet and National Chorus, as well as three other companies.

The County's Symphony Orchestra is regularly based at the National Grand Theater, but it also offers concerts around the city and the country.

Museums in Lima
Lima has an excellent museum culture which examines it fusion with European and Moorish influences, mixed with the indigenous past and religious inheritance. All of this makes Lima one of the most interesting cultural cities in Latin America, with a huge archaeological, historical and cultural past that it's reflected in each of its museums.
