Satellite TV

Most expats will opt for satellite TV, as it offers a far better range of local and international programs for reasonable prices. TV-Cabo offers convenient packages that bundle satellite TV and internet together. Prices range between USD 50 and USD 120/month, based on the number of chancels and the amount of data you want.

Internet

The internet easily accessible in cities across Mozambique through service provides and mobile phones. A few urban locations operate on 3G networks but 2G is more widespread.

Accessing the internet over the cell phone network is arguably the easiest and quickest option. It is possible to use your phone as a base, off which you can tether other devices. You can also purchase a USB internet stick that plugs into your computer.

To have a permanent line in your house, you will first need to make sure that it is possible to have internet at your location. Rural areas, for example, are more difficult to service. Assuming you can get service, you will then need to provide a local service provider with the following in order to sign a contract.

• Identification
• A resident's permit
• A residential billing address
• A financial statement

Time frames for installation vary greatly based on the company. Enquire with them for better estimates.

Internet Café

Internet cafes are located readily throughout Maputo, in a number of small shops and cafes. To locate one, you often just need to ask someone near by for directions - though some of the popular ones include:

• Teledata: Av 24 de Julho, a block north of Av. Vladimir Lenine
• TDM Café: At the Rovuma Hotel
• Connection Time: 1^st floor of the Avenida Shopping Center (Av Julius Nyerere and Av Eduardo Mondlane)

The price per hour varies from café to café, but generally it is quite inexpensive.

WiFi

Free WiFi is not readily available in Maputo; however, a number of street side cafes (i.e. a café serving coffee) offer Wi-Fi hotspots that you can pay to use (if it is working). Generally, using these hotspots is more expensive than going to an internet café.
