The national mail carrier in Malta is Malta Post. Malta Post offers mail services six days a week, Monday to Saturday.

In Malta, letters are addressed:

Maltese postcodes (also known as zip codes or postal codes) correspond to the name of the village and generally follow a three letter/four digit format. For example, postcodes for Sliema are SLM ####, while postcodes for Birkirkara are BRK ####.

Rates

Local letters can be posted in Malta for €0.20.

International letters can be posted for €0.37-€0.86. Posting international packages in Malta is relatively inexpensive compared to rates in North America and other European countries.

Post Offices

Post offices are located in most villages in Malta. You can spot them by looking for the red and white Malta Post sign outside. There are also sub post offices in Malta, normally stationers or kiosks that offer limited postal services. Post boxes in Malta are red, and can be freestanding or integrated into the exterior wall of a housing block or storefront. You can also send mail at post offices and sub post offices.

All local mail posted before 7 pm Monday-Friday, and 3 pm on Saturday, is processed the same day and delivered the following working day. International mail posted before 7 pm Monday-Friday, and 3 pm on Saturday, is mailed by air to most countries the next day.

Services

Besides regular postal services, Malta Post also offers many supplementary services. At most Malta Post outlets and sub-outlets (smaller post offices with no package collection services) you can pay bills. You can also purchase telephone and mobile cards for providers GO, Vodafone, Melita, Hello, Easyline, Sky Telecom, and Red Touch.

Money orders and transfers can be made at Malta Post outlets. Commission fees range from €1.16 to €4.66. Malta Post is also an agent for Western Union, and can provide British Postal Orders for a commission of €0.82 to €3.26.

Malta Post also offers a SendOn service, which forwards packages to Malta from designated UK shipping addresses. This allows Maltese residents to shop online from businesses that do not normally offer direct shipping to Malta.

Malta Post offers mail redirection for €4.66 per year. You can also rent a Post Office (PO) Box from Malta Post for €46 to €163 per year.
