Personal recommendations can be the best way of finding suitable child care. Arrange meet-ups with other expats, join other families at parks and playground, or connect with others on online forums like EasyExpat's Childcare in Malaysia forum.

Another option is inquiring about child care centers at International Schools. They may also be able to offer recommendations. Foreign embassies also provide lists of associated services. Inquire at your embassy (more info on embassies under the Public Services section of the guide).

Also be sure to visit different care facilities to find one that works for you and your child.

Child Care Subsidies

The government only gives subsidies to Malaysian citizens.

Some expats receive benefits like child care in their work contract. Check the details of your contract before signing and negotiate to best suit your needs. For information on benefits, refer to our section on Benefits Package under the work section.

Playgroups

Playgroups tend to be organized by resident expat parents to encourage social interaction and communication between children. They may focus on a specific language, or just allow the children to enjoy games and activities. There is usually a small fee to cover costs.
