Shopping

The people of Luxembourg love the finer things in life. Moselle wine, chocolates (knippercher), electronics, porcelain and rare goods, the city has fantastic shopping.

Shops are usually open Monday afternoons, than Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00. Larger shops are open through lunch. Few shops are open on Sundays.

Upscale shopping can be found in the Old City, around the Grand Rue and rue de la Poste. Additional, more moderately priced shopping can be found around the train station. For souvenir stores, go to the streets surrounding place d'Armes.

Markets

Knuedler- a flower and vegetable market is held Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 13:00. There is a general market here every 3rd Sunday of the month from 10:00 to 17:00.
On the Place des Glacis

Marche aux Puces/Brocantea- large flea-market is held here every second Saturday.
On the Place d'Armes

Food Shopping

Luxembourg does not have many 24-hour shopping centers and restrictive shopping hours can make buying essentials difficult. Luckily, there is a large selection of fresh, organic products.

A one or two euro coin is need to use the large shopping carts (it will be returned at the end of your trip). Vegetables and fruits will often need to be weighed at the produce section. Organic products are known as Bio and may include sodas, baked goods, meats, vegetables, and fruit.

Cactus, Alima and the Cooperative are all Luxembourgish-owned stores. Delhaize, Match, Auchan, Aldi, and Lidl are foreign owned, but adequate grocery stores.
