Cinema

Despite the large number of modern, well equipped movie theatres in Kuwait, all movies, whether an adult or child's movie, are heavily censored and many more films that you would normally find in Western and European countries never make it to the big screen. Films with excessive swearing, nudity and lots of physical contact (on screen kissing), are generally never shown. There does, however, appear to be high degree of tolerance for movies with a moderate level of violence.

A night out at the movies, which includes popcorn, candy and a drink, will set you back 3.5KD per person. Children are generally a little less expensive. Depending on which theatre you chose, ticket prices may fluctuate slightly.

Seating is almost identical to what you would find in Western and European movie theaters, with comfortable chairs for normal entrance tickets, and for VIPs, large, cushy, leather seats. Seating is segregated, with women and children at the back while, single men are forced to sit near the front. In some cases, fathers, who bring their children to the movies, without the mother, will be treated as a single, unmarried man and will be forced to sit near the front of the theater.

Kuwait National Cinema Company (KNCC) operates the only movie company in Kuwait, Cinescape. There are 13 Cinescape theatres around Kuwait. Use this link to find the theatre closest to you. With the exception of Arabic movies, all films are in the English language, some have Arabic subtitles.

Some theatres offer IMAX screens, but these are limited and slightly more expensive.

Nightclubs

If you're looking for nightlife in Kuwait, there isn't much to offer. Officially, there are no nightclubs in Kuwait.

There are however, nice alternatives to party life. Most people entertain in their homes, or gather at a local restaurant for dinner with family and close friends.
