Bank services

Banks and exchange offices are easy to find, especially on the main streets of Ben Yehuda, Allenby and Dizengoff. Most cash machines accept foreign cards and automatically switch to English on the instructions screen. At some machines (called "caspomats" in Israel) you can even withdraw foreign currencies. You will always be asked if you accept a small processing fee for withdrawing cash using a foreign card. Israeli banks have varied but limited hours and charge a higher commission than money changers. The best solution is probably to use cash machines. Travellers cheques are to be avoided since they are next to impossible to use and banks charge high transaction fees. Never change money on the street, you’re sure to be ripped off.
