Rugby certainly counts as more of an 2exotic" sport in Germany, but there is a national rugby association (DRV) and there are national and local leagues, with the national team playing in ENC Div. 1B.
Rugby is played throughout Germany, including in Frankfurt - and is a great way to make friends, especially as the teams are usually a good mix of locals and expats. -
There is a first division club in Frankfurt am Main - SC Frankfurt 1880. The website is
www.sc1880.de and the rugby section is in German and English.
The club is close to the city centre and has plenty of foreign (Kiwi, South
African, British, French, etc.) players as well as the local German ones.
Anyone is welcome to come along to training (times are on the website) or
come and watch a game. There is a youth section, too (and the coaches all speak German and/or English).
The sports club also has hockey, tennis and lacrosse sections, so there's something for all tastes on offer!
We meet every Wednesday from 7:30 pm. onwards at the "Künstlerkeller", Seckbächer Gasse 4 (next to the theatre "Die Schmiere", 2 minutes away from Willy-Brandt-Platz).
